BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBS/WCBS/AP) Prosecutors have subpoenaed Rutgers University to get a hold of e-mails concerning how the school handled complaints from freshman Tyler Clementi that his roommate used a webcam to broadcast video on the Internet of him in a sexual encounter with another man.
The 18-year-old violinist from Ridgewood, N.J. jumped off the George Washington Bridge into the Hudson River on Sept. 22.
The Star-Ledger of Newark reports that prosecutors asked for the subpoenas after investigators felt the state university was not fully cooperating with the invasion of privacy case.
Dharun Ravi, Clementi's roommate, and Molly Wei, were each charged with two counts of invasion of privacy last week. The state's Attorney General, Paula Dow, said investigators were exploring adding hate crime charges; however, the current New Jersey law may not adequately address the circumstances behind Clementi's death, according to CBS station WCBS.
